Male birth control is a hot button issue in reproductive health. It’s obviously unfair to expect women to bear the whole burden of unwanted pregnancy, but for men we either have condoms, which aren’t entirely reliable and reduce sensation, or vasectomies which are permanent. A number of companies are investigating other methods of birth control on the male side, and this video illustrates one of the more interesting ones we’ve seen. Nanosized gold rods are injected into the testicles and then heated with ultraviolet light, which kills the temperature-sensitive sperm without damaging other cells. It’s relatively uninvasive, affordable and reversible, making it an attractive option.
