I don’t know if you’re aware of this, but your humble editor here at the Ball Report dabbles in cartooning in his off hours. I don’t get to write about that stuff often here, but now the opportunity has presented itself with a new graphic novel called Back, Sack & Crack (& Brain) by Robert Wells.
The 48 year old cartoonist painstakingly chronicles some 28 years of health problems he’s experienced since 1990, which include persistent back pain and an aching testicle. He’s passed around from doctor to doctor with none believing him, leaving him a nervous wreck with reams of medical anxiety.
The book is a remarkably honest take on pain and its treatment, ably illustrating how it can affect every part of your life. Wells’ drawings leave nothing to the imagination – he doesn’t paint himself in a terribly flattering light, as one might be tempted to.
Our mission here at the Ball Report is to get people talking about their nuts in any way they feel comfortable, so this graphic novel is a tremendous step forward. Even though testicular cancer isn’t on Wells’ diagnosis chart, he’s still urging you to listen to your scrotum. It could save your life.Get your balls in the game!
