A few decades ago, many of our best and brightest scientists were working on some pretty impressive breakthroughs. Nowadays, they have plenty of time to fill ping pong balls with propane and throw them at a blow torch. Although the hypothesis sounds a bit like it was written ex post facto, “The Backyard Scientist” explains that the purpose of this experiment was to determine whether or not a ping pong ball filled with propane will “spin really fast, or make a cool noise, or explode“. We’ve spoiled the ending for you here of course, but suffice to say that most any kind of ball filled with propane will explode when coming into contact with a blow torch. Trust us on this one.
