Puberty brings with it many joys and many torments, and one of the worst of the latter is pimples. Caused by bacteria swarming around irritants in the skin, these pus-filled bumps can manifest all over the face, but they can also pop up in other parts of your body – even your balls. If you’re afflicted with scrotum acne, we have some tips for you courtesy of dermatologist Dr. Jamin V Brahmbhatt, MD.
First things first: zits down there are just as normal as zits anywhere else, so don’t panic. Diet, hormonal activity and stress can all contribute to their development. It’s important not to poke or try to pop them, though – unlike face pimples, which are kept relatively clean and dry, the hothouse environment of your underpants can encourage bacterial growth in those popped zits, making them more prone to infection.
Instead, just keep them clean and dry, change your underwear regularly and spend a little time down there in the shower and a ball pimple won’t be anything to worry about. If you notice bumps in a cluster, or any swelling or growths underneath the skin or on the testicles themselves, talk to a doctor as soon as you can.
