If you’re one of our non-European readers, here’s a quick explainer. Strictly Come Dancing is basically the British version of Dancing With The Stars, only it’s been around forever. Ed Balls is a former British politician who we cover on this site because his last name is Balls. All caught up? Good, let’s go.
The only reason anybody really knows the name of Ed Balls is that a few years back he accidentally Tweeted his own name. Since then, every April 28th has been celebrated as Ed Balls day to remember it. Balls took his social media fame in good stride, but the former Member of Parliament for Normanton and Morley and Outwood saw his political career stall in 2010 when he ran for leadership of the Labour Party and lost.
Private life hasn’t been bad for Ed Balls – he currently serves as Senior Fellow at Harvard University Kennedy School’s Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government as well as teaching at King’s College London. But it’s hard to stay out of the spotlight, so when Strictly Come Dancing rang he signed up to cut a rug on the telly.
Ed’s first go-round, partnered with Russian pro Katya Jones, didn’t go so well. As you can see in the video above, Balls doesn’t really have what it takes on the dance floor and the duo wound up with the lowest score of the week. Will Balls go home? We’ll update you as the series continues.Get your balls in the game! Donate to the Sean Kimerling Foundation to win the battle against testicular cancer.
