Obviously our main goal here on this site is to raise awareness for testicular cancer, but there are plenty of other things that can go wrong down there. Case in point: testicular torsion. If you’re lucky enough to have never heard of it, torsion is when the spermatic cord (the tube that the gonads hang from) gets twisted, cutting off the flow of blood.
When this happens, the first symptom is immediate and intense pain. If not treated, it can cause a number of serious problems, including blood loss just six hours after the first twist. Rapid treatment is essential for dealing with testicular torsion.
In this video from the Cohen Children’s Medical Center, Dr. Ariella Friedman runs you through the basics of testicular torsion in a clear and easily understandable way, with diagrams of the affected region and a list of symptoms to look out for. Take a few minutes out of your day to watch it – it could save your life, or at least save your balls.Get your balls in the game! Donate to the Sean Kimerling Foundation to win the battle against testicular cancer.
