This Guy’s Nuts, Corner Pocket

If you turn on ESPN in the very early hours of the morning, you might still be lucky enough to catch one of the obscure billiards competitions taking place at a casino somewhere in the northeast. These things used to air all the time back before ESPN was rolling in broadcast partnerships with the Big 4 sports leagues, and even before poker became a minor sensation.

In those days, it wasn’t uncommon to see a few pool professionals play a best-of-5 series of 9 ball, or even a trick shot contest or two. What would have been weird, though, is to see some guy waiting at the end of the pool table with his hands behind his back, hoping to see a ball skip off a quarter and fly directly into his nuts.
