Winning The Powerball Probably Isn’t That Cool Anyway

So, you didn’t win the Powerball. Too bad. According to ABC News, even if you had pulled the winning numbers last night, you’d have split it with 3 other people—hardly even worth it!

The winning Powerball numbers were drawn Wednesday night: 8, 27, 34, 4, 19 and the Powerball of 10.

California lotto officials tweeted almost immediately after that a winning ticket was sold in the state. Later, California Lottery spokesperson Russ Lopez said there were two more winning tickets sold, one in Tennessee and one in Florida.

While the jackpot amount soared to around $1.6 billion, the cash prize amount was just under 10 figures at $983.5 million. We won’t know for some time which option the lucky winners will choose, but by the time taxes are paid and financial managers are hired, each winning Powerball ticket will probably only amount to a couple hundred million dollars. Minus the $2 ticket cost, of course.

Still, that’s probably more than enough to self-publish all 17 volumes of your Indiana Jones fan fiction, with a little bit leftover for a new hat.
