Watch A Quibi About A Horrific Ball Of Twine

We’re still not 100% sure what the point of Quibi, the video platform headed by superproducer Jeffrey Katzenberg and CEO Meg Whitman. The company is slated to spend $1.1 billion on short-form videos that you watch on your phone, but where the profit is going to come from is a question that might not have answers.

The slate of talent that the company has shelled out for is pretty epic, with names like Steven Spielberg and Chance the Rapper on hand. But here at the Ball Report, there’s one specific show that’s on our radar: 50 States Of Fright, a horror anthology created by legendary Evil Dead director Sam Raimi.

The Quibi exclusive series takes its inspiration from the vast world of urban legends, those tall tales that percolate around the campfire and in the back pages of small-town newspapers. The second episode, “Ball Of Twine,” takes place in Kansas. Not a place we associate with horror, but we trust Raimi with it.

In the episode, a woman and her daughter stop at a tourist trap to see the “world’s largest ball of twine,” but when the girl gets too close to the orb a pair of limbs reach out and pull her inside. We’re not going to spoil all of the twists for you, but the premise is based on a real tourist attraction, albeit a less homicidal one.
