Wimbledon Ball Kid Stretchered Out After Slip

We talk a lot about the injuries suffered by athletes during their efforts, but it’s important to recognize all of the support staff on the sidelines that keep things going. Case in point: a ball girl at Wimbledon, who was hustling so hard to grab a stray ball during a mixed doubles match between Sam Murray Sharan, Divij Sharan, Ariel Behar and Galina Voskobeova that she slipped and took a scary fall.

The rain-soaked courts at Wimbledon have been a big concern this year, with multiple players and officials slipping on the damp grass. The most notable incident happened when Serena Williams took a slip during her first round match with Aliaksandra Sasnovich and being forced to quit the tournament due to injury. Adrian Mannarino and Nick Kyrgios also hit the ground during their matches.

In the case of the ball kid, she was significantly injured right off, screaming in pain after the fall. Medical professionals brought a stretcher out and took her to a local hospital. Wimbledon officials have blamed the wettest weather in a decade for the conditions on the court, but there’s not a lot they can do to mitigate the slipping danger posed by the damp grass. Hopefully the weather will improve and the rest of the tournament will be safer.
